Deputies: Gunman call near Yargo Elementary was a false alarm

Posted 1:50PM on Monday 15th May 2017 ( 6 years ago )

It may have been a "misunderstanding" of a reported gunman near Yargo Elementary School in Barrow County that led to a lockdown at the school Monday afternoon.

"There was a report of a person on the outskirts of the school grounds, and it was alleged they were holding a gun. The school was placed on lockdown, and deputies arrived within minutes," said a report on the Barrow County Sheriff's Office Facebook page.

Deputies found a man at his residence, and the report indicates he was cooperative with deputies, who did not find any firearms.

"[I]nvestigators are currently working to find out if this was a misunderstanding," the report states.

No arrests or injuries have been reported.
