Suwanee to consider zoning request for gas station at McGinnis Ferry, Scales roads

Suwanee City Council is considering the approval or denial of a zoning request that would bring a gas station to the corner of McGinnis Ferry Road and Scales Road.

R. James Halsema is seeking to put gas pumps and a convenience store on the 2.3-acre property, which sits on the southeast corner of the intersection, according to city documents.

City staff and the Suwanee Planning Commission have recommended denial of the plan, though city council members will have the final say at their voting session May 23, where a public hearing will be held.

"The current conditions that exist on the property do not allow gas pumps or a convenience store," said Marty Allen, city manager.

"Our staff report speaks for itself. The conditions were put in place back when it was originally zoned for a reason."

The public hearing will be held at Suwanee City Hall
