CORNELIA — A large tree that fell during Saturday night’s heavy rainfall damaged several vehicles and utility lines on one Cornelia street.

The tree, in the yard of a home on Maple Street at Wyly Street, fell across Maple Street, knocking down telecommunications lines and landing on at least three vehicles, striking the gutter of a home across the street and the roof of a metal carport adjacent to the second home.

Cornelia police and firefighters responded to the initial call, and city employees from the public works department removed a section of the tree from the street late Saturday night.
