The Union County Sheriff's Office is asking people to be on the lookout for a man who allegedly stole a car at a Dollar General Sunday afternoon and is now on the run.

A post on the sheriff's office's Facebook page says the suspect, Jeffrey Dean Cowan, was last seen driving the stolen orange 2007 Honda Fit with the tag number PLU 4967 and is believed to be headed towards the area of Habersham, Banks and Jackson counties.

Authorities are also asking the public to be cautious, as Cowan is believed to be armed with a knife. A warrant has been issued for his arrest, listing charges of aggravated assault and felony theft by taking.

Anyone who sees Cowan or the vehicle is asked to call 911.
