Buford Commission to consider landfill on McEver Road

Posted 1:50PM on Saturday 22nd April 2017 ( 7 years ago )
At its meeting May 1, Buford city commissioners will consider a final vote on a landfill that would be located on McEver Road in Hall County.

The inert landfill, which would likely consist of non-biodegradable materials like sand and concrete, would occupy a 14.4-acre site near Blackberry Lane, according to a site plan obtained by AccessWDUN.

The Buford Planning and Zoning Board has recommended denial of the plan, according to Kim Wolfe, planning director.

At issue with residents and stakeholders is the landfill's proximity to Big Creek, which feeds Lake Lanier.

In a published report in the Gwinnett Daily Post, one issue for concerned citizens is illegal use of the landfill for things like chemicals, which could in turn pollute the water heading to Lanier.

The landfill sits about a mile and a half from Big Creek.
