CARNESVILLE — A Canon man accused of shooting a Martin man in the chest around midnight Sunday, April 16, has been located and arrested.

Stewart Ravenell, 41, was arrested without incident Thursday morning, April 20, according to Franklin County Sheriff Steve Thomas. He is being held without bond in the Franklin County Detention Center awaiting a first appearance hearing.

The shooting took place at a home off Ga. 17 in the Martin area of Franklin County, and the victim was struck in the upper chest area by gunfire and remains in critical condition at an area trauma center, Thomas said Thursday.

The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation are continuing to collect evidence and interview witnesses in the case.

“The victim’s name has not been released due to out-of-state family members,” Thomas said.

Ravenell fled the scene of the shooting and had been sought by law enforcement on aggravated assault charges until his capture Thursday.
