DAHLONEGA — The third-ranked North Georgia baseball team continued their success in midweek action on Wednesday with a 6-2 win over Auburn Montgomery. The Nighthawks move to 33-8 with the win before heading into their final weekend of Peach Belt Conference play.
UNG got on the board first with a three-run bottom of the first. Trevor Sams plated the first run of the game with a sacrifice fly to the warning track in right to drive in Devin Gearhart from third. Bill Leroy would bring in two more with a double to left center later in the inning.
Andres Perez extended the lead to 4-0 in the bottom of the second with a one-out solo homer to right. The Warhawks answered in the top of the third with a two-out, RBI single up the middle.
After a scoreless fourth, Auburn-Montgomery cut the UNG lead in half with an RBI-double down the right field line off the bat of John-Mark Crosby to make the score 4-2.
Kal Dempsey led off the North Georgia fifth with a triple off the wall in right center and would come home to score on an RBI groundout off the bat of Trevor Sams. Leroy capped the scoring for the game with a towering home run to lead off the sixth for the Nighthawks, pushing the UNG lead to 6-2.
NOTES
- Josh Bryan (3-0) picked up the win with three effective innings of relief, allowing one run on three hits with two walks and a strikeout.
- Chris Cobb picked up the three-inning save, his second of the year. His first came on Feb. 19 against Lynn.
- Andres Perez led the Nighthawks at the plate with a 2-for-3 night that included a solo homer and a triple.
- North Georgia finished with an effecient six runs on seven hits, only leaving three runners on base.
UP NEXT
The Nighthawks will welcome Flagler to Bob Stein Stadium for the final PBC series of the regular season with the league title on the line. First pitch for game one is set for 6 p.m. on Friday.
