FLOWERY BRANCH — The Lanier Christian Academy baseball team stormed back from a seven-run deficit to knock off 2015-16 GICAA state runner up Westminster Christian 13-12 in eight innings Thursday.

LCA (7-3) trailed 7-0 and 10-4 during the game before catching fire in the late innings. The Lightning fell behind 7-0 but cut the lead to 7-4 after a grand slam by sophomore Joseph Edwards in the bottom of the third.

Westminster extended its lead to 10-4 in the fourth but LCA senior Mark Jeremiah smacked a three-run triple to pull the Lighting to within 10-7. LCA tied the game at 10 in the sixth when sophomore Lorenzo Condensa drove in Caleb Nave with a squeeze bunt.

Westminster’s CJ Smith hit a two-run home run to center in the top of the eighth but the Lightning answered in the bottom of the inning when Aaron Underwood singled to center and eventually tagged up in a fly ball by Senior Jacob Ross. Walks to Jeremiah, Edwards and Nave helped LCA finish off the rally.
