Tennis: Banks Co. boys capture 8-AA title

SOCIAL CIRCLE — The Banks County boys tennis team won the Region 8-AA championship on Wednesday.

After falling the past two seasons in the region finals, the Leopards (11-2) finally broke through this season. They knocked off Monticello in the semifinals to advance to the finals and then held off Elbert County 3-2 to capture the title.

Banks County swept the doubles and got a win from Gabe Martin at No. 1 singles in 6-3, 6-4 victory. The No. 1 doubles team of Hunter Payne and Griffin Goodwin won 6-2, 6-1 and the No. 2 team of Stetson Boswell and Tyler Morris took a 6-1, 6-1 win to help clinch the match.

Banks County will receive a first round bye in the upcoming Class AA state tournament and have advanced to the sweet sixteen. The Leopards will play the winner of the Vidalia-Davidson Fine Arts match in the second round.
