Storm damage repaired, Big Creek Greenway back open

Posted 3:48PM on Wednesday 12th April 2017 ( 7 years ago )
The boardwalk in Forsyth County's Big Creek Greenway is back open following over $107,000 in emergency repairs, county officials said Tuesday.

Storm damage the night of March 21 forced the closure of the boardwalk between mile 6.1 and 6.2.

The scope of the removal and repair work included roughly 125 feet of deck, handrail and the first level of structural support, according to the county.

The $107,353 came from the county's risk management fund.  Steele & Associates did the work.

"The damaged section of the Greenway is very popular," county parks and recreation director Jim Pryor said in a news release.  "We are appreciative for the understanding and patience of citizens who had to modify their route while repairs were being made."

Officials Tuesday said the full length of the greenway is now open.
