He hasn't made a public announcement yet, but it appears that Lt. Governor Casey Cagle will make a run for governor next year.

The Atlanta Journal Constitution reported that the Lt. Governor filed the necessary paperwork with the state on Monday to run for the state's top office in 2018.

Cagle, a Republican who is a Hall County native, began his political career when he was elected to the Georgia Senate in 1994. He was first elected as Lt. Governor in 2006.

At this point, Republican Secretary of State Brian Kemp is the only announced candidate for the governor's race, although political analysts expect the race to be crowded on both the GOP and Democratic side. Gov. Nathan Deal is serving his last term in office.

Cagle is supposed to make a public announcement of his candidacy within the month, according to the AJC.
