A Rabun County woman has been arrested on drug charges following a two-week investigation by regional drug agents and local law enforcement.

Mitchell Posey, special agent in charge of the Appalachian Regional Drug Enforcement Office (ARDEO) announced the Wednesday arrest of Vonda Sue Hughs, 52.

Posey said Hughs was arrested after area residents complained to authorities about what they suspected to be illegal activity at Hughs' home.

A search of her residence on Old Chechero Road in Clayton turned up eight ounces of marijuana and $4,000 derived from the sale of illegal narcotics.

"The estimated street value of the seized narcotics is $2,400," Posey said in a press statement. "Hughs was charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and possession of drug related objects."

The Rabun County Sheriff's Office and the Clayton Police Department assisted with the investigation.
