'Lawyers at the Library' to offer first steps to free legal aid at Buford library branch

On Tuesday, potential clients can take the first steps toward getting free legal aid on an array of potential issues by attending an event at the Buford-Sugar Hill Library.

An informational session will be held at the "Lawyers at the Library" event, hosted by Gwinnett Legal Aid, an arm of Atlanta Legal Aid, starts at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.

"They'll cover services that are available regardless of (a client's) income level," said Lazarus, attorney for Gwinnett Legal Aid.

"There will also be an opportunity for people to get a call back from an attorney. There's not going to be legal advice given that day in the library because there's a number other steps we have to take first to make sure there's no conflict."

The free legal aid applies to civil legal assitance, which covers a wide array of topics, including but not limited to: family law matters, domestic violence, debt lawsuits, landlord/tenant disputes, public benefits issues or estate planning.

A similar meeting will be held April 1 at the Five Forks Trickum branch at noon, and May 20 in Buford, which will be in Spanish.
