Baseball: Jefferson rallies for dramatic 8-AAAA opening win over North Oconee

JEFFERSON — Jefferson opened its Region 8-AAAA schedule in dramatic fashion taking a 7-6 win over North Oconee on Monday at home.

The Dragons (10-4, 1-0 Region 8-AAAA) were cruising jumping out to a 5-0 lead with two runs in the second and three in the fifth. But the Titans (6-6, 0-1) rallied for two runs in the sixth and four in the seventh, hhighlighted by a three-run home run from Tanner Green, to take a 6-5 lead.

The Dragons rallied in the bottom of the seventh. Justin Cole was hit by a pitch and Lane Watkins walked with one out. Zac Corbin then doubled driving in Cole and Watkins with the winning runs

Patrick Hickox got the win for Jefferson in relief. Hickox pitched two-thirds of an inning allowing two runs on three hits. Brandon Trefren started and went 6 1/3 innings yielding six hits and four runs while striking out four for the Dragons.

Cole had two hits and two RBI and Watkins, Carter Evans, and Vinny Farley each had one hit for Jefferson. Evans had two RBI and Watkins one for the Dragons.

Jefferson next will travel to North Oconee on Wednesday for the second of three games in the series. The teams will return to Jefferson on Friday
