Officials in Suwanee are considering a move to hit the "pause" button on rehabilitation work on the Martin Farm Road bridge, with the possibility of replacing it altogether.
"As we were doing it, we were actually notified by Georgia DOT (Department of Transportation) that the project may be eligible for some state resources," said Marty Allen, city manager.
That money would have to go towards a full replacement of the two-lane, 30-foot-long bridge, which sits near the Suwanee Creek Greenway, instead of rehabbing it.
The rehabilitation work was intended to keep the 10-ton weight limit on the bridge from decreasing.
"As a bridge ages, it loses its carrying capacity over time," said Allen.
Council will consider final approval of the measure at its next voting session.
