CORNELIA — The Cornelia City Commission has tabled a proposed agreement with the U.S. Forest Service for the city to maintain Chenocetah Tower and the surrounding grounds.
The vote came at a called meeting Thursday, after City Manager Donald Anderson told the three commissioners in attendance that the cost of required liability insurance for the property currently is unknown.
In fact, the city's insurer wants to make a visit to the site before giving the city information about coverage, Anderson said.
Commissioners agreed to take up the issue at the city commission meeting on April 4.
Anderson and Mayor J.C. Irby have been working with USFS officials on the agreement since June.
After the meeting, Anderson said he doesn't believe Thursday's vote to table the matter will stall the process, adding city leaders want to see the partnership work so the city can beautify the area around the tower.
