The Georgia Department of transportation will replace the Six Mile Creek bridge over Lake Lanier in Forsyth County, with the agency awarding an $11.2 million contract for the work.

The 0.6-mile bridge is on Ga. 369, and the original version was constructed in 1955, according to a press release from GDOT.

"No rehabilitation can be done to the substructure to improve the weight restriction and the bridge must be replaced," the release states.

GDOT announced a series of 23 contract awards on Wednesday, totaling more than $244 million.
