ROSWELL — Gainesville High graduate and former Red Elephant football assistant Michael Perry was recently announced as the new head football coach at Centennial High in Roswell.

Perry graduated from Gainesville in 2002 and coached with the Red Elephants for 10 years before joining Coffee High School in Douglas as the Trojans' offensive coordinator for the 2016 season.

Perry helped Coffee quarterback Max Hughes to finish first team all-region, honorable mention All-State and sign to play for Valdosta State at the collegiate level.

Prior to 2016 Coffee's offense based out of the wing-T but switched to a spread attack under Perry, and Hughes passed for 3,568 yards while the Trojans reached the state quarterfinals for the first time since '08.

Centennial reached the Class AAAAAA first round last season, finishing 8-3.
