Sugar Hill seeks to establish building authority for downtown area

Sugar Hill is asking the local delegation to the Georgia General Assembly to establish a building authority for its downtown area.

Sugar Hill City Council members on Monday approved a resolution requesting the action in the state legislature.

"It would allow this authority to own and manage buildings and properties that we're going to have in our downtown, such as a conference facility or parking facilities," said Paul Radford, city manager.

The resolution states that the Sugar Hill Building Authority would provide more opportunities and flexibility with development in the downtown area.

"It's just another tool to help us implement our Downtown and Community Master Plan," said Radford.

The bill, which has not yet been filed, would likely be called the Sugar Hill Building Authority Act.
"The authority would manage buildings in the downtown area, like the ones that will be coming with the city's EpiCenter project."
