A Republican member of Hall County's Board of Elections & Registration has resigned following his recent arrest on shoplifting charges.

Thomas Charles Sandoval submitted his resignation Monday, Feb. 13, according to Hall County government officials.

Sandoval's appointment as Vice Chair District 2 with the Hall County Republican Party is set to end on March 18.

"It will be up to whomever becomes Chairman on March 18th to appoint for the District Vice Chairs and then voted on by the Executive Committee," Hall County Republican Party Chairman Debra Pilgrim said in an email.  "So that remains an unknown until that process takes place."

Sandoval was arrested on Feb. 3 after a manager with Walmart on Shallowford Road in Gainesville accused him of shoplifting two pair of boxer briefs from the store. Total value of the merchandise was $30, according to a police report.

After his arrest, Sandoval said he had been wrongly accused of the theft.
