One man died and a mother and child suffered possible serious injuries in a wreck in Habersham County Wednesday night.
That two-vehicle crash was reported at 6:18 p.m. on Ga. 17 (Toccoa Highway) south of Jess Kinney Road.
A 1992 Chevrolet GMT 400 driven by Jesse Len Sanders, 36, of Mt Airy was traveling north of Ga. 17 negotiating a right curve, when the driver failed to maintain his lane and allowed the vehicle to travel onto the wrong side of the road, according to Georgia State Patrol Post 7 in Toccoa.
A 2009 Chevrolet Silverado K150 driven by Jessica Ellen Dodd, 28, of Mt. Airy was traveling southbound on Ga. 17 negotiating a left curve.
"The driver of vehicle 2 [Dodd] steered to the right in an attempt to avoid impact, but was unsuccessful," the GSP report states. "The left front bumper and fender of vehicle 1 [driven by Sanders] struck the left front bumper and fender of vehicle 2."
Sanders' truck rotated counter-clockwise after impact and traveled across the southbound lane and into the northbound lane while still rotating, coming to rest in the northbound lane facing east, the GSP report shows.
Sanders died of injuries suffered in the wreck.
Dodd's vehicle rotated counter-clockwise after impact, exited the southbound lane, traveled off the west shoulder and began to overturn, the report states. The vehicle then continued through a ditch and onto an embankment while continuing to overturn before coming to rest on its left side against a pasture fence, facing south.
Dodd was transported by ambulance to Habersham Medical Center with possible serious injuries.
Dodd's passenger, Peyton Dodd, 4, of Mt Airy, also was injured and was transported by ambulance to Habersham Medical Center with possible serious injuries, according to GSP.
The area of impact was approximately six feet, nine inches west of the double yellow line, in the southbound lane, indicated by gouge marks, according to GSP.
