Forsyth County park expands walking trail, other improvements

Posted 3:03PM on Friday 10th February 2017 ( 7 years ago )

The improvements to Forsyth County’s Chattahoochee Pointe were celebrated today with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the park.

“Chattahoochee Pointe is a tremendous amenity and now, with these new improvements, it will certainly be an even greater resource for our citizens,” said Parks and Recreation Director Jim Pryor.

The improvements included an extension of the existing park trail in order to create a 5K trail and the construction of a new restroom building.

Funding for the park improvements came from the Parks, Recreation and Green Space Bond approved by voters in 2008 and by the SPLOST VI sales tax program.

“We want to thank the voters for making the improvements here possible through their support of both the SPLOST penny sales tax program and the Parks, Recreation and Green Space Bond,” said District 2 Commissioner Rick Swope.

Among those recognized at the ceremony was the Gilstrap family who donated close to 20 acres of land to Chattahoochee Pointe in 2015. The park now stands at 119 acres.

Also completed during the recent improvements was installation of infrastructure to facilitate a future groundwater treatment plant to be constructed on the property.
