Dollar General employee charged with theft of deposits

A Hiawassee woman who worked for Dollar General has been arrested, charged with taking more than $10,000 in store deposits.

Amanda Shelton, 33, is charged with two counts of theft by unlawful appropriation following an investigation by Towns County sheriff's investigators, Sheriff Chris Clinton announced Monday.

A total of four deposits were missing from the Ga. 288 Dollar General store where Shelton worked. The deposits were taken between Dec. 2, 2016, and Jan. 3, 2017, according to Clinton.

The investigative file will be turned over to the district attorney's office for prosecution.
