Wrestling: East Hall pins down Amicallola Classic title

DAWSONVILLE — The East Hall wrestling team closed out 2017 in style on Saturday.

The Vikings won the the two-day Amicallola Classic at Dawson County High School going a perfect 5-0 in Dual competition and producing three individual champions.

On the first day of competition, East Hall beat both Murphy, N.C. and Duluth by identical 66-12 scores then knocked off Sequoyah 54-25. They followed those with a tight 45-31 win over host Dawson County and closed out the Dual portion with a 56-10 pin of Union County.

In the inidvidual tournament on the second day, the Vikings placed in eight weight classes, including the three tournament champions.

Ryan Buffington (138-pounds), James Stoudenmire (145), and Mike Woods (152) all brought home titles.

Drew Highfield (126) and Austin Nix (220) took Second place finishes. Ethan Powell (106) and Luis Garcia (120) placed third while Athyn Thurmond (285) placed fourth.

The Vikings next will compete at the Area 4-AAA Duals tournament at Jackson County on Jan. 5-6.

The East Hall wrestling team tuned up for the upcoming Area 4-AAA Duals by capturing the Amicallola Classic Duals over the weekend at Dawson County High School.
