A tractor-trailer load of food was delivered to Gainesville-based Georgia Mountain Food Bank Friday.

Kay Blackstock, Executive Director of the food bank, says that a few days ago GMFB received notice that FEMA would be emptying a warehouse in Jacksonville, Fla.

"Because of this," Blackstock wrote in an email, "they were offering tractor–trailer loads of individual food boxes to food banks is Georgia and Florida.  Each food box contains one container of ravioli, apple sauce, crackers, cookies, granola bars, peanuts, cutlery and napkin.  They had 1,776 pallets of the food boxes available to any food bank that could coordinate and secure transportation of the load."

That is where Eric Oliver, Senior Operations Manager at XPO Logistics, a GMFB partner, stepped in to help, Blackstock added.

"XPO offered to coordinate, haul and deliver the load to GMFB," she wrote.

XPO and Jensen Hauling ended up delivering 6,000 food boxes, according to a posting on the food bank's Facebook page.
