A Lula woman is dead and her 8-year-old son is in critical condition following a two-car crash Wednesday morning in Gainesville.

It happened around 9:25 a.m. when Shelby Paige Stanfill, 27, was driving south on Cleveland Highway/U.S. 129 near Hub Head Road in the Clermont area, according to a media release from the Georgia State Patrol.

Her Kia Optima crossed the center line, spun into the northbound lanes and hit an oncoming Honda Odyssey, driven by Mai Moreno, 49, of Gainesville.

Stanfill was killed in the wreck. Her son was taken to Scottish Rite Hospital in Atlanta in critical condition.

Moreno was taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in stable condition with non-life threatening injuries, troopers said.

Authorities do not know what caused Stanfill to leave her lane. No charges have been filed, but the investigation is ongoing.
