Close battles set after Day 1 of Rudolph Jr. Classic at Chattahoochee

Chattahoochee Golf Course played host to the first round of the 2017 Rudolph Junior Classic on Monday in Gainesville.

In the boys Overall division, Wesley Heston from Atlanta took a slim 1-shot lead over two Red Elephant golfers. Defending champion Ryan Hogan, along with rising freshman Sam Patterson are opened with a pair of 73s, behind Heston's 72. Ryan Davidson of Flowery Branch is fourth after a 77.

Patterson also owns a 4-shot lead over Davidson going into Tuesday's final round in the boys 14-15 age group,.

Meanwhile, Dawsonville's Alex Hughes fired a 77 to take a 5-shot lead over Colin Edwards (Atlanta) and Wiley Hickerson from Gainesville in the boys 10-13 division.

In girls play, Calhoun's Kate Kauffman shot a 85 and holds a 3-stroke lead over Alivia Davis from Westminster, South Carolina (88). Jefferson's Caroline Martin also fired a 89 and is four shots off the pace.

The Rudolph Junior Classic is a 36-hole event held annually at Chattahoochee Golf Course in Gainesville. Round 2 takes place Tuesday, beginning at 10 a.m. Spectators are welcome.
