A former Hall County Sheriff's deputy faces charges of violation of oath of office and two counts of theft by deception following an investigation related to his timecard.
In a Hall County grand jury indictment filed last week, Ricky Edwin Nix is accused of billing the sheriff's office for hours he worked off-duty at two secondary jobs.
According to the indictment, Nix had worked side jobs at Oakwood's Arrow Auto Auction and Blackshear Place Baptist Church on several occasions between January and November of 2015.
He allegedly documented those hours on his sheriff's office time sheet.
"Nix...did obtain property, to wit: U.S. Currency, the property of Hall County, Georgia with a value of more than $1,500, with the intention of depriving the owner of said property by deceitful means...," the indictment states.
The bill of indictment does not state a specific amount of money.
Sheriff's Deputy Stephen Wilbanks said Nix resigned in December of 20-15, while under investigation, "for fraudulent time keeping."
Witnesses to the grand jury included Georgia Bureau of Investigation agents, Hall County sheriff's deputies and representatives of the auto auction and church, according to the indictment.
