(UPDATE:) Boys basketball: Branch fights back over Johnson; Union, Banks each win

FLOWERY BRANCH — Myles Janess scored seven consecutive points, while the Flowery Branch defense held Johnson to just just two baskets over the fourth quarter to help the Falcons pull out a 51-40 victory on Tuesday in Flowery Branch.

The Knights led 27-21 at half, but the Falcons (4-2, 1-0 Region 8-AAAAA) whittled that advantage to 34-33 at the start of the fourth quarter

Justin Quick scored 16 points and grabbed 7 rebounds to help pace the Branch, while Janess finished with 13 points, 7 rebounds and 5 steals. Patsheko Lutumba also added 9 points and 6 rebounds in the win.

Chandler Jones put up 14 points for the Knights (3-3, 0-1), while Will Richter chipped in with 12.

Johnson will look to bounce back against Clarke Central on Friday in Oakwood.

The Branch travels to face Cedar Shoals on Friday.

 

BANKS COUNTY BOYS 87,
WEST HALL 73 

It was raining 3-pointers in Homer as the two teams combined for 28 treys but Gabe Martin and Dylan Orr helped power the Leopards to non-region win.
 
Martin 22 points, 7 rebounds, 4 four assists while for Orr poured in 15 points to go with 9 rebounds 5 blocks for Banks County (4-0). 

The Spartans (3-3) knocked down 15 3-pointers, led by Noah Edmondson, who drained 7 treys as part of his game-high 25 points. Banks County's connected on 13 3-pointers but won the game at the foul line outscoring 15-2 from the stripe.

For Banks County, Carl Cleveland added 12 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals, and 2 blocks. Darius Bonds had a double-double with 10 points and 13 assists and also added 5 rebounds and 4 steals for the Leopards.

For West Hall, Braden Martin chipped in with 14 points, Tae Reid had 13, and Sawyer Passmore scored 9 points. 

Banks County next will open its Region 8-AA schedule on Friday playing host to Monticello.

West Hall will play host to Jackson County on Friday in another non-region battle.


UNION COUNTY BOYS 55,
FANNIN COUNTY 49 

Sophomore Sawyer Drake poured in a game-high 21 points and senior Crawford Colwell scored 12 for the Panthers (5-0, 1-0 Region 7-AAA) on Tuesday night. 

Chandler Kendall scored 11 points to lead the Rebels.

Fannin County plays host to Lumpkin County Friday.

Union County plays host to Rabun County on Thursday.

 


MORGAN COUNTY BOYS 61,
JEFFERSON 37

Jasper Gibson scored 15 points to lead the Dragons (2-4) in a defeat on Tuesday. 

Jefferson will play host to Apalachee on Friday.
