(UPDATE:) Girls basketball: Dawson, Branch, West Hall, Union power to wins; Winters sets new record for East Hall

FLOWERY BRANCH — The Flowery Branch girls basketball team opened its Region 8-AAAAA campaign with authority on Tuesday, swatting Johnson 57-11 in Flowery Branch.

Freshman post Abi Whitaker paced the Lady Falcons (5-1, 1-0 Region 8-AAAAA) with 10 points, while Caroline Wysocki added 8 points and 5 steals. Lexi Sengkhammee also scored 7 and provided 4 assists, while Ashlee Locke scored 7 and grabbed 7 rebounds.

The Branch travels to Cedar Shoals on Friday in Athens.

Johnson, meanwhile, will look to bounce back against Clarke Central on Friday in Oakwood.

 

DAWSON COUNTY GIRLS 56,
BLESSED TRINITY 52

The Lady Tigers opened the game with an 8-0 run to grab the quick lead and then held on for the victory over Class AAAA Blessed Trinity on the road in Roswell.

Dawson County (4-1) had three players score in double figures, paced by 16 points from Kaylee Sticker. Anna Lowe added 12 points and Abi Chatham 10 for the Lady Tigers.

The Lady Tigers eventually led 16-7 after the first quarter but Blessed Trinity chipped into the lead pulling within 32-26 by halftime. The teams played to a virtual draw in the second half with the Lady Titans outscoring Dawson County just 26-24 in the second half. 

Dawson County will open its Region 7-AAA schedule on Friday at home against Greater Atlanta Christian (6-1, 1-0 Region 7-AAA). 


EAST HALL GIRLS 69,
LUMPKIN COUNTY 49

Carly Winters continued her assault on the record books for the Lady Vikings (2-4, 1-0 Region 7-AAA) in the win in Dahlonega.

Winters broke her own single-game 3-point shooting mark, nailing 11 treys to finish the contest with 37 points.

Carley Cox also contributed 10 points for East Hall. 

The Lady Vikings play host to North Hall on Friday in Rabbittown.

Lumpkin County (2-3, 0-1) travels to Fannin County on Friday.


WEST HALL GIRLS 52,
BANKS COUNTY 46

Anna Mckendree poured in a game-high 37 points to help lead the Lady Spartans (5-2) to the victory on Tuesday in Homer.

Ashyah White also scored 10 points for West Hall, which led 16-12 after the first quarter and 31-26 at the half.

The Lady Spartans play host to Jackson County at 7 p.m. Friday in Oakwood.


UNION COUNTY GIRLS 49, 
FANNIN COUNTY 47

The Lady Panthers (4-1, 1-0 Region 7-AAA) fended off a 12-2 Fannin County run in the fourth quarter to seal the win on Tuesday.

The Lady Rebels pulled within one possession with 1:00 remaining.

Brooke Dockrey and Bailey Daniel preserved each produced clutch free throws for Union County. Daniel finished with 13 points. 

Hope Franklin led Fannin County with 20 points.

The Lady Rebels (4-2, 0-1) play host to Lumpkin County Friday.

The Lady Panthers play host to Rabun County on Thursday.


TOWNS COUNTY GIRLS 66,
TALLULAH FALLS 37 

The Lady Indians' full-court press -- led by juniors Taylor Cornett and Kristen Byers -- to go on a 29-4 run in the second half to pull away from a 24-24 halftime score on Tuesday night.

Senior Madison McClure scored 16 points to pace Towns County. Freshmen Vanessa Floyd (14 points) and Kennedi Henson (13 points) also played key roles. Sophia Shook also scored 7.
