Police now say 10-12 vehicles in Queen City Parkway injury crash

In a mid-morning update, Gainesville Police said there were 10, possibly 12, vehicles involved in a traffic accident on Ga. 60/Queen City Parkway that sent several people to the hospital this morning.

One of the vehicles was a tractor trailer.

Queen City Parkway in the area West Ridge Road was closed throughout most of the late morning, but officials reopened it around 1 p.m.

"There were multiple injuries with one being very serious," Gainesville Fire Department Division Chief Keith Smith. "She [the seriously injured person] was trapped in that vehicle after the fuel tanker/tractor trailer truck rear-ended her vehicle and basically wedged her vehicle between the tractor trailer and the vehicle that was in front of it."

Smith said it took about 10 minutes to extricate the woman from the vehicle.

In all, Smith said at least 11 people suffered injuries serious enough to require transport to Northeast Georgia Medical Center.

Smith said he was unsure of how the accident occurred, but he noted that the area was foggy and that might have been a contributing factor.

The Gainesville Police Department is handling the accident investigation.  The AccessWDUN Traffic Center first received reports of the collision around 8:00 a.m.
Hall County was under a dense fog advisory at the time.
