An 18-foot tall, 1,100-pound chicken is scheduled arrived in downtown Gainesville Monday in preparation for Thursday's "Jingle Mingle" celebration.

City of Gainesville spokeswoman Catiel Felts said in an email Saturday that Main Street Gainesville and Main Street Market have partnered on the project.  The giant chicken is expected to be in place atop Main Street Market in time for its lighting during the holiday event, which begins at 5:00 p.m. and continues for three hours.

"The chicken is being built by welding students at Lanier Tech and will be moved to its downtown Gainesville location some time Monday, Nov. 13,"  Felts said.  "The chicken weighs more than 1,100 pounds and will be 18 feet tall when its head is attached."

The Lighting of the Chicken has been a part of Jingle Mingle for several years.
