With Veterans Day falling on a Saturday this year, students and teachers in schools across Hall County and Gainesville decided to pay tribute to military servicemen and women on Friday, Nov. 10.

Every school in Hall County found some way to honor veterans, whether it was with a free breakfast or lunch, a special assembly or a parade.

The City of Lula opted to hold its annual observance on Friday, as well, so that students from Lula Elementary School could participate. Guest speaker for the 2017 Veterans Day Service in Lula was Command Sgt. Major (Ret.) Joseph Natividad, a Lula resident who served three combat tours in Vietnam.

Ninth District Congressman Doug Collins spoke at a ceremony at New Holland Core Knowledge Academy, which is part of the Gainesville City School System.
