UPDATE: Suspect in custody in Mill Street shooting

Posted 10:18AM on Friday 10th November 2017 ( 6 years ago )
A woman was taken into custody in Alpharetta, charged with aggravated assault in connection with a shooting Monday afternoon on Mill Street in Gainesville.

Gainesville Police Sgt. Kevin Holbrook said Leondra Shenell Williams, 34, of Gainesville, is charged with aggravated assault.  Local investigators had been working with Alpharetta Police to find Williams.

"She had possibly done some work in the metro Atlanta area.  We're very fortunate, of course, that we were able to send out good information through networking through law enforcement networks," Holbrook said.  "An observant officer with the Alpharetta Police Department came in contact with Ms. Williams, recognized her from the wanted images that were sent out through the law enforcement networks and took her into custody without incident."

Local authorities weren't immediately sure when Williams was apprehended.

The shooting incident unfolded around 1:00 p.m.  Holbook said there were connections between the victims, Nykita Young, 30, and Joyce Young, 25, and Williams.

"The victims were in a home, in a private residence on Mill Street, believed to be somewhere in the doorway where they did have contact with Ms. WIlliams, at which point the shooting occurred," Holbrook said.

Both victims were hospitalized at Northeast Georgia Medical Center earlier in the week.  Police confirmed Wednesday that both had been released from the hospital.

"As far as specifics and/or motive to the case, I do not have that information, again, it is still an active investigation," Holbrook said Friday.

Williams was expected to be returned to Hall County Friday to face the charge.
