Man arrested for thefts at Winder churches, other locations

A 25-year-old Bethlehem man faces more than two dozen charges in connection with thefts at two churches, a Walmart store and a YMCA in Barrow County.

Earlier this month, authorities had asked for the public's help in locating Billy Thomas Manis. A social media post indicated Manis was arrested the night of Oct. 14 by the Winder Police Department with assistance from the Auburn Police Department and the Barrow County Sheriff's Office. Details of the charges were released Monday by the Barrow County Sheriff's Office.

A jail report indicates Manis faces a total of 27 charges - six misdemeanor theft by taking offenses, six felony theft by taking offenses, six financial transaction card fraud offenses, five burglary offenses, three charges involving the illegal obtaining of prescription drugs and one count of criminal trespass. 

At last report, Manis remained in the Barrow County Detention Center.
