GDOT wants you to See and Be Seen

The Georgia Department of Transportation is launching a new pedestrian safety campaign called "See and Be Seen".

G-DOT District Engineer Brent Cook told the Afternoon News Wrap when walking at night or in low light, it is best to wear bright colored clothing.

"If it is dark," Cook said. "The headlights are going to shine on it and ambient light is going to light you up so you can be seen. Also, walk where a car would expect you to be."

G-DOT reports pedestrian-car fatalities have increased 40-percent over the past two years and most of those deaths have happened after dark. Last year, 235 people were hit and killed by cars while walking.
