A Gainesville woman accused of killing a dog she was grooming now has more than 30 pet owners alleging abuse against their animals, police said.

Michelle Louise Root, 41, owner of Paw'sh Paws and Pet Spa on Lake Center Parkway, is facing another felony charge of animal cruelty, and turned herself in Wednesday evening, said Aletha Barrett, deputy chief of the Cumming Police Department.

Since her initial arrest Oct. 11, more victims have contacted police, alleging abuse back as far as 2003, when Root was an employee at a PetSmart store in Cumming.

"A lady contacted us who had an animal who was severely injured in March of 2016, and that animal subsequently died of its injuries," said Barrett, indicating the most recent felony charge levied against Root.

"We're still getting phone calls."

Root posted a $5,600 bond, said Barrett.

Allegations have also come in related to Root's employment at other Forsyth County pet businesses, though Barrett said that information would be investigated by other law enforcement agencies.

Barrett's initial arrest came when a pet owner alleged that Root kicked her dog, threw it against a door and choked it with its leash, eventually leading to the dog's death.
