A 19-year-old Forsyth County woman, reported missing on Tuesday, is dead, her body found in Lake Lanier in Dawson County Wednesday afternoon.

Dawson County Sheriff Jeff Johnson said Katherine Scott Landrum was last seen on Tuesday, October 10, leaving her home.

"She had went to her friend's house on Charles Drive in Dawson County to swim and kayak, and so once they got there, she was not located and reported her missing to us," Johnson said.

Her body was recovered around noon Wednesday from water in the vicinity of the dock at the home, according to Johnson.

Johnson called the law enforcement response in the search and recovery, "unbelievable."

It included several deputies with K-9 units, and the Dawson County Fire Department.  The Georgia DNR used its sonar equipment in the effort.  The Georgia State Patrol helicopter also responded, and the Hall County Sheriff's Office Dive Team recovered the body, according to Johnson.

While the case remained under investigation, Johnson said foul play is not suspected.

"Our prayers and condolences to the family and friends of Miss Landrum," a social media post from Johnson's office stated.  "Thank you to everyone that helped during the search and recovery effort. Please keep the family in your prayers."
Katherine Scott Landrum, 19
