Mason Tucker gave himself an early birthday present on Sept. 30th when he out dueled Jimmy Johnson to take his first-ever win in the Limited Late Model division at Georgia’s Lavonia Speedway.

The Hartwell, Georgia driver made the move from the 4-Cylinder ranks this season, and the 20-year-old used what he has learned so far in the Late Model ranks to beat out Johnson, who has scored a multitude of wins around the region this year.

The action behind the leading duo was no less spectacular, with Clayton Turner finishing in third spot ahead of Gus Simpson in fourth and David McCoy in fifth.

In other action, Adam Partain edged out Cody Pritchett to record FASTRAK Pro Late Model feature. Frankie Beard followed in third, with Parker Herring in fourth and Vince Fenella in fifth.

After apparent 602 Hobby feature winner Nick Schlager was disqualified in a post-race protest, veteran Steve “Hot Rod” LaMance made his first visit to Lavonia’s victory lane for 2017. Lance Chitwood moved to second, with Brandon Stroud in third, Scott Kennedy in fourth Chris Cape in fifth.

Sterling Helm grabbed the Modified Street feature win, as he held off Kyle Gordon and Johnny Pilgrim for the victory. Tim Stephens and Chase Burdette rounded out the top five.

Cape doubled up on victory lane visits, as he also drove to the Stock V8 feature. Zach Brown came home in second, with James Campbell in third, Timmy Jones in fourth and Justin Turner in fifth.

In the Stock 4 feature, Parris Simmons powered to the win over Harley Holden. Scott Hollars followed in third, with Mike Little in fourth and Randy Boshears in fifth.

B.J. Gillespie scored his first Lavonia Front Wheel Drive feature win of the year ahead of Cody Henry. Lance Sentell, Tony Stevens and Matthew Wall rounded out the top five.

Dakota Whittemore reached the checkered flag first and then survived a post-race protest to take his second consecutive Beginner 4-Cylinder feature win. Jacob Kelly finished second, Tyler Fortner third, Daniel Booth fourth and Nathanial Little fifth.

Lavonia Speedway returns to action on October 14. For more information, visit LavoniaSpeedway.net.
