Jackson EMC Sunday began releasing some of the 250 contractors from from seven states who had been on standy in case of widespread power outages caused by the what was left of Hurricane Nate.
Nate weakened into a tropical depression as it began moving through Georgia Sunday. The contractors, from Texas, Indiana, Arkansas, Virginia, West Virginia, Tennessee and Florida were released to areas that have been impacted by the storm and need assistance in restoring outages. They, along with 150 of the EMC's own linemen, had been on alert. The week of September 10 thousands of Jackson EMC members and others in the region suffered power outages when the remnants of Hurrican Irma moved through the area.
Jackson EMC officials noted, in making the announcement Sunday afternoon, that weather reports indicate its members could expect some additional storms throughout the evening - and that it will have linemen on call throughout the night if they are needed.
Real-time outage reports may be viewed at outage.jacksonemc.com. That's also where members can report an outage. As of 4:30 Sunday afternoon, the electric co-op said there were no outages.
