A Bowman man has been extradited to Elbert County from South Carolina and now faces a half-dozen charges in a Wednesday homicide in Bowman.

Gregory Robert Roberts, 47, of Bowman waived extradition before a judge in Anderson, S.C., on Thursday and then on Friday was transported to the Elbert County Detention Center, where he is charged with murder, malice murder, felony murder, aggravated assault, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and concealing the death of another, according to Elbert County Sheriff Melvin Andrews.

Just after 1:15 p.m. Wednesday, Elbert County Dispatch received a call of an unresponsive female on Beaver Run Extension in Bowman. When deputies and Elbert County EMS personnel arrived, they located a deceased female, later identified as Ashley Marie Williams, 30.

The Elbert County Coroner’s Office was notified and the investigation determined that the incident was a homicide, according to Andrews. A lookout for Roberts was issued in Georgia and South Carolina.

About 9:20 p.m. Wednesday, Elbert County officials were notified that Anderson County Sheriff’s Office had apprehended Roberts.

“Elbert County Sheriff’s Office appreciates and thanks Hart County Sheriff’s Office, Anderson County Sheriff’s Office and everyone involved for their help in this case,” Andrews said.

The investigation is continuing.
