For those hoping for a Chase Elliott win in 2017, Sunday at Dover was a heart breaker. Kyle Busch passed the Dawsonville native with a half lap to go to score his second playoff win and prove he's worthy of being in the contention conversation. In this week's Hard Left Turn podcast, Around the Track editor Brandon Reed and Katie B. spend a lot of time wishing Sunday's outcome was different, and a little time explaining why it wasn't.

Beginning of the show: Why oh why, and how oh how, did we not get to hear the siren go off at the Dawsonville Pool Room on Sunday?

9:30-minute mark: (Yes, we spent a lot of time lamenting Elliott's loss) Ryan Newman fought Elliott to stay on the lead lap over the final laps and caught flack from Jeff Gordon as a result. Should Newman have race the way he did, or should he have moved out of the way?

11-minute mark: Newman was one of four drives (Austin Dillon, Kurt Busch and Kasey Kahne were the other three) eliminated from the playoffs after Sunday's race. Of the four out of contention, who is the most surprising?

12-minute mark: Has Brandon properly recovered from Elliott's near-win?

End of show: The playoffs head to Charlotte Motor Speedway for the Bank of America 500 next. Last year, Elliott appeared to be on his way to a win at this track only to get caught up in someone's crash. Could a good run at Charlotte be healing?

You can listen to the upcoming Bank of America 500 beginning at 2 p.m. Sunday on AM550 and FM102.9 WDUN, and streaming on AccessWDUN. For up-to-the-minute motorsports information, follow @WDUNRacing on Twitter and log on to the Around the Track page for complete coverage.

The siren at the Dawsonville Pool Room in Dawsonville, Georgia remained silent Sunday afternoon after Chase Elliott was passed for the lead and the win with less than one lap to go at Dover International Speedway.
Chase Elliott came within half a lap of scoring his first career Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series victory Sunday afternoon at Dover International Speedway.
Both Kurt Busch (left) and Ryan Newman (right), seen here from an earlier event, missed the cut to make the next round of the NASCAR Cup Series Playoffs Sunday at Dover International Speedway. Austin Dillon and Kasey Kahne also failed to make the next round.
