LAVONIA — What started as a chase on Interstate 85 in Franklin County Thursday night has led to a manhunt for a convicted felon on the run.

"It started as a chase on I-85 northbound," said Franklin County Sheriff Steve Thomas. "The driver exited off onto Exit 173 (Lavonia). The driver struck a vehicle at the red light on Ga. 17 at Ga. 59, and a deputy struck him when he attempted to leave the scene."

Thomas identified the man who fled as Marqual Broadwater, 23, from the Atlanta area.

"The man ran from the red light toward Rainbow and the railroad tracks" in downtown Lavonia, Thomas said.

Broadwater is a convicted felon, Thomas said.

Anyone who sees Broadwater should not approach him, but rather dial 9-1-1 to report his location immediately.
