A Lilburn man was seriously burned in a Monday evening fire at his home on Fernbrook Court.

Gwinnett County Fire Capt. Tommy Rutledge said firefighters responded to the blaze around 5:43 p.m., after a neighbor saw the flames and called 9-1-1.

He said crews immediately found the man outside the house with burn injuries. He was treated by paramedics and then transported to Grady Hospital in Atlanta. The man's name was not released to media.

Rutledge said the fire appears to have started in the garage, although investigators are still looking into the circumstances of the incident.

"The exact cause of the fire and the circumstances surrounding the incident are currently under active investigation by the fire department.  There was no one else at the house when firefighters and police arrived and no other injuries were reported," Rutledge wrote in a press release.
