Posted 4:30PM on Monday 2nd January 2017 ( 7 years ago )
GAINESVILLE - Isaac Ruiz will forever carry with him the title of "First Baby of 2017" at the Northeast Georgia Medical Center.

Little Isaac - all 6 pounds and 14 ounces of him - was born just 27-minutes into the new year according to NGMC Mother-Baby charge nurse Meredith Ivey.

"He is joining a family with two older brothers and one older sister," Ivey said Monday afternoon of the 20-inch long infant who had just left the hospital for the short ride to his new Gainesville home.

"His parents were very surprised to get them," Ivey said of the gifts customarily given to the first baby born each year. "They did not realize that we did that."

Isaac was given a new car seat, a Pack-N-play, a gift basket, gift certificates, blankets, books and "a silver spoon from one of the jewelry stores here in town," Ivey said, "and a gift certificate for some shoes from Sauls."
