GBI bomb unit takes 'dangerous items' in Habersham

CLARKESVILLE -- A small section of Daniel Road west of Clarkesville was closed for several hours while law enforcement personnel dealt with what officials termed "dangerous items." 

Lt. Matt Wurtz of the Habersham County Sheriff's Office said officers were called to a home on Daniel Road, which runs between Ga. 17 and Fred Pitts Road, after suspicious items were located. 

"After locating the items it was determined that they appeared to be dangerous and  the GBI Bomb Unit was contacted and responded to the scene," Wurtz said. 

Wurtz said the suspicious items were turned over to the bomb technicians, who destroyed them. 

Habersham County Fire and medical personnel were stationed nearby to respond if needed at any point during the operation. 

No one was injured during the incident and no arrests have been announced.
