AUDIO: Kemp says voter ID defeats in other states shouldn't impact Georgia's law

Posted 4:44PM on Monday 1st August 2016 ( 7 years ago )
Georgia's Secretary of State said court defeats of voter identification laws in Texas and shouldn't impact Georgia's voter ID law.

Appearing at a Rotary Club of Gainesville meeting Monday, Kemp said one distinct difference in Georgia's law is that it allows for free photo IDs.

"I think that if they did that, their law(s) wouldn't have got thrown out, so I think worst case scenario for Texas and North Carolina is they'll go back and amend their law and do something like that," Kemp said.

And Kemp said usually when another state's voter ID requirement makes headline, he checks with the Georgia's attorneys.

"We've been through the gauntlet on our photo ID law.  We've been sued multiple times.  We've been, I think, all the way to the supreme court and we've won every single one of those cases," Kemp said.

Also during his appearance in Gainesville, Kemp announced the office’s new GA SOS smartphone app.  Georgians can use the free app to register to vote, view voting information, renew business registrations, search business filings and view certificates of existence.
