One person is in the hospital and another faces charges after a boating accident on Saturday.

According to Hall County Sheriff’s Deputy Nicole Bailes, deputies responded to the area of Bolding Mill Park in reference to a 19-year-old with a traumatic injury. Upon arrival, they found the victim’s right foot had been completely amputated and his left foot was severely lacerated.

Deputies suspected alcohol had been a factor and notified the Department of Natural Resources.  Upon further investigation, the DRN determined that the operator of the boat, identified as 19-year-old William Craven, of Cumming, was impaired.  He was arrested, and faces charges of BUI of Alcohol, Reckless Operation of a Vessel, Insufficient Personal Flotation Devices and Littering.

The victim, identified as 19-year-old Shane Mallory, was air lifted to Grady Hospital where he was treated.  Craven was transported to the Hall County Jail, where he posted an $8,300 bond.

Bailes said the DNR’s CIRT team impounded the boat, and will be conducting a full investigation into the accident.
