At one point during the Tuesday search, authorities thought they might have found the body of Jerry Kornmeier of Snellville in Lake Lanier, but underwater video determined that was not the case.

In an email statement Tuesday night, Mark McKinnon with the Georgia Department of Natural Resources said sonar identified a possible target in the water in the Cocktail Cove area near Lake Lanier Islands.

"The Remote Operated Vehicle (ROV), a small tethered submarine with video capabilities, was deployed and the video determined that it was not Mr. Kornmeier. No other potential targets were identified," the statement read.

The search for the 57-year-old Kornmeier has been going on since Saturday night when his empty boat was found drifting in the lake.

DNR rangers, along with officials from the Hall County and Forsyth County sheriff's offices, have been searching for Kornmeier.

Tuesday's search was suspended at 7 p.m.; the search will resume Wednesday morning at 9, according to McKinnon.
