ATHENS, Ga. (AP) Authorities are searching for a state prisoner they say walked away from a work detail in Athens.

The Athens Banner-Herald reports (bit.ly/1QR9ZhT) that 24-year-old David Earl Gill was serving a sentence at the Clarke County Correctional Institution after a conviction in Clayton County on a charge of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Athens-Clarke County police say Gill was last seen in the area of Hancock Industrial Way near Olympic Drive.

Police said that if anyone sees Gill, they should not approach him and call 911 immediately.
